Poverty. What is it?
Is it being so poor all you have in life is a meal or two of ground corn and have school in a mud wall buildings and live in mud wall homes, like the many we help at AFM Mercy School in Kenya?
Some might define it as having barely enough to survive in life. Some might say it's being too poor to afford your own means of transportation like a car or motorcycle or bicycle. It seems to be defined relative to a persons personal state of peace or satisfaction.
I think an accurate definition of poverty is where a person is entrapped in some misery by life's circumstances, and no matter how hard they work, they cannot move beyond that place of misery! They need a rescuer to help set them free. Poverty is a form of Slavery. Slaves need redeemers!
But the greatest poverty of all is a life without Jesus Christ as your Savior and Master. He alone can set us free from the poverty of sin and death! Every man, woman and child was born into Satan's slavery.
But we; We were created to run free with our Maker; to walk in the goodness of his righteous light!
Your sins have bound you in utter poverty, but Christ is the Redeemer who will break your chains and wash you clean! If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. -1 Jn 1:9
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free, and that the time of the Lord ’s favor has come. ”
Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
These words of Elevation Worship say it well.
