A Message from the Bys Family

As you might imagine, providing Christmas gifts for the Mercy Home family can be quite a challenge. This year, we are asking y’all (no, we haven’t left our Texas heritage completely behind) to commit to buying gifts for a child or two or more. These gifts will be sent to Garland, TX so that the group of visitors coming to see us in November can bring them when they come. Below you will find all of the Mercy Home children still needing gifts, grouped by gender and age. Please scroll all the way to the end for special instructions and to register to sponsor a child. Registering lets us know who has gifts on the way and who doesn’t. Thank you so much for considering helping us in this; it is a blessing to our ministry. Your generosity will lighten our load, and bring joy to the Mercy Home kiddos.

Peace & Joy,

The Bys Family

Special Notes - Please Read!

  • Kenyan life can be harsh (concrete and dirt are our play surfaces) so for the toys to last more than a day or so they need to be durable toys.

  • If you are sending an 18" doll she will not fit in the shoe box, but that is okay, just make sure and mark it with her name. Maybe even tie a tag around her neck or arm in case she gets removed from her box. A used 18" doll is fine as long as she's in good condition.

  • If you are sending a doll of any kind, please remember we don't have much access to dark skinned dolls and I would love for our girls to have dolls that aren't only white. Any nationality is fine really, but I'd love for my girls to have more than a white doll available to them.

  • Please do not include any food or candy in the box. With a group this large we prefer to hand candy and food treats out as a group. This also helps prevent lost/stolen food, hiding food in beds and over eating junk food. I have included a list of bulk Candy and treats we would like for them to have if you are able to help purchase those, that would be great.

  • Please do not include hygiene items as they are usually heavy and we have plenty of access to those here.

  • If you would like to send a soccer ball we prefer the One World Play Football (or something similar) because it will last and doesn't pop. Our kids are playing football on a dirt field surrounded by barbed wire so the ball must be sturdy. However, we prefer to give those as a group to prevent "You can't play with us because that's MY ball." Our kids play football multiple times a day so footballs will be well used here.

  • We recommend packing the gifts in a Sterilite 6 Quart Storage Box or something similar. Please limit it to gifts that will all fit in the Sterilite box if at all possible.

  • Please ship items/boxes to: AFM Ministry, 4034 Wiltshire Dr. , Garland TX 75043

  • Boxes should be shipped to arrive by November 1st, That will give us a couple weeks to sort out things, so we can prep and pack it all for the group taking the luggage to Kenya.

  • You can use Amazon, Walmart, or other online shopping sites to send gifts directly to the AFM shipping address. However, it is critical that you put the child’s name on a gift receipt to indicate who it’s intended for; one child’s name per online order. Otherwise, we will not know which item is for which child when we go to pack boxes. Thanks for your help with this!
